Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025
On the 27th June, we celebrated the Menstrual Hygiene Day was celebrated at Butemba College School in Central Western Uganda. The event aimed to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and promote good practices among the students. Among other activities that were conducted included the distribution of sanitary pads to 578 girls, trained 90 girls and 14 boys how to make reusable sanitary pads. Dialogues and workshops were conducted to curb challenges, barriers and stigma related to menstrual hygiene. By engaging both the students and the teachers in open discussions, the event helped normalize menstrual hygiene, encouraging students to ask questions without fear of judgement.
Highlights of the event
The Menstrual Hygiene Day had a significant impact on the students and the school community. There was increased awareness where the students demonstrated an improved understanding of menstrual hygiene, which is crucial for their health. There were improved practice; students reported adopting better menstrual hygiene practices such as regular changing of sanitary pads, proper disposable, and maintaining personal hygiene.
